Hm... Well, I just checked, and people online are claiming that they have fixed it by mashing the buttons a lot and blowing in them. Maybe I was wrong.
So, you could try that, and if it doesn't work, perhaps the compressed air.

About the L and R buttons, they are pretty important... Sadly I don't think an air spray can will fix that, knowing how those microswitches work. I do know that the DSi XL's R button is on a separate board with the SD card slot, that can be replaced
Also, other advice, do you use lightbox? And, when pasting a sprite, do you hold L (or R if you choose left-handed controls) and press the arrows to position it?
