It's time to dive into the past and bring it to life once more! We're excited to announce the return of F.A.T.E, the Flipnote Animation Tribute Event!
For three weeks, the Sudomemo community will come together for a celebration of creativity, nostalgia, and classic Flipnote animations!
The event kicks off on Sunday, May 25th and will run for three weeks. We invite you to dive into the Flipnote archives to reanimate and reimagine Flipnotes from the Hatena era. Browse the original classics at https://archive.sudomemo.net and find something that speaks to you. Whether it's an iconic meme or a hidden gem, this is your chance to give it a fresh twist and show the world your skills!
Throughout the event, participants can watch classic Flipnotes to gather inspiration and learn from the masters. Need inspiration or guidance? Check out CerealBowlby's style guide for tips and advice on capturing that Flipnote magic.
Judge Introductions
CerealBowlby: CerealBowlby here! I've been animating with Flipnote Studio since 2011. I look forward to seeing Sudomemo creators have fun in making new flipnote classics!
HelenaRisc: Hey! I'm Helena and I am the creator of SketchTube, which is a social media for animators that I'm currently developing! I was super inspired by Flipnote Hatena as a kid and grew up longing for that kind of artistic community.
McBoo: Name's McBoo! I'm a Flipnote creator from back in the Hatena days. I'm currently working on remastering my old Flipnotes on my YouTube channel, Erik Stensrud Animations!
Meggo: I'm Sudomemo's event organiser, and also a designer! I mostly animate MV flipnotes or join chains :3
Purinpomm: Hey everyone, Purinpomm here! (You might remember me as Yuneo from Flipnote.) I'm a designer for Sudomemo, and I truly wouldn't be where I am today without the incredible Flipnote Hatena. I'll always be grateful for everything it gave me.
Judging Criteria
Our panel of community judges, consisting of CerealBowlby, HelenaRisc, McBoo, Meggo, and Purinpomm, will be evaluating your submissions.
The judges will score submissions based on the following criteria:
1. Creativity and originality
- Innovation: How creatively does the animation reimagine or reinterpret classic Flipnotes?
- Original Ideas: Incorporation of unique concepts and imaginative elements.
2. Presentation
- Clarity: Clear and coherent presentation of the animation.
- Professionalism: Overall polish and professionalism in the final submission.
- Technical Execution: Proper use of sound, timing, and synchronization.
3. Authenticity
- Authenticity: The extent to which the animation captures the spirit and style of the original Flipnotes while adding a fresh twist.
- Respect for Source Material: Faithfulness to the elements of the original Flipnotes while demonstrating creative innovation.

Only one submission per creator is allowed. Want to redo your entry or submit something different? Delete your old entry before reuploading! This is to prevent spam and make the judging process easier for our panel.
The deadline for your submissions is Saturday, June 14th, at 11 PM Eastern Time.
