Featured Artist: OwlyGhost (October 30th, 2019)

Hello Flipnote fans! We're glad to announce our second Featured Artist: OwlyGhost! OwlyGhost joined Sudomemo in Fall 2015, and since then has charmed many of us with her wholesome animations. Read on to learn more about the person behind it all.

Please tell us about yourself.

I am an 18 year old aspiring animator who loves nature and nice things! I was heavily inspired by Flipnote Hatena growing up, and it's the main reason I grew to love animation as much as I do today. I've taken art classes all throughout my school years and I spent the previous year at a trade school for Commercial Art. I hope to go to film school in the near future! Until then, I will keep practicing through my Flipnotes and other projects.

What are your interests or hobbies, and how do you spend your free time?

Aside from drawing and animating, I spend a lot of time caring for all of my plants and pets! I currently have three cats and seven chickens that I'm raising, along with many plants both indoors and out. I love taking pictures of nature and interesting things that I find. I also enjoy ice skating and hiking with friends!

Please introduce some of your best Flipnotes, and tell us why you like them.

“Pure Imagination” was the first Flipnote of mine that got popular! I put a lot of effort and personal meaning into it and I'm still pretty proud of it. A lot of people were grateful for my relaxing little Flipnote, which motivated me to keep making animations!

“Keep your head up” is my most recent Flipnote and the one I'm most proud of! I believe it sends a nice little message and I hope it lifted some people's spirits a little! I also have a lot of fun animating flowers blooming.

What techniques or skills are you especially good at in your Flipnotes? What are some techniques or skills that you wish to improve?

I would say I'm pretty good at making my Flipnotes flow from each scene. I love looking for smooth ways to transition from each part of my animations to the next. I hope it makes my animations fun to watch! I'd like to improve on making my animations more dynamic. Just learning how to draw dynamic poses is tough, and it's even harder to make it animated! I hope to improve on this more through my Flipnotes and through the animations I post on Youtube.

Please introduce some of your favorite artists on Sudomemo.

There are so many skilled artists on Sudomemo that it's hard to pick! Some personal favorites are Checkogo, because I absolutely adore how smooth their animations are, and ☆Tacha☆, because I love their unique artstyle! I was also a HUGE fan of Fleesveon back in the Flipnote Hatena days. There are many more inspiring animators, but those are a few that I like!

Is there something you would like to say to the Sudomemo community?

Flipnote Hatena is the reason I got to where I am today. I hope that Sudomemo and the wonderful creations that are shared there will continue to inspire people to animate, create, and have fun!
