First of all, let’s introduce our special guest judges!
The Judging Panel Of W.C.F. 2025
CosmicGAZ: Hello everybody, I’m Gaz! I make digital artwork, flipnote animations, and occasional comics with my original characters. I’ve been enjoying, and making flipnotes since 2010!
RAXDFLIPNOTE: Hey guys, it’s raxdflipnote! I am a flipnote animator and YouTuber who really just got started about a year ago! I like video games, composing metal and EDM music, and of course, Flipnoting!
Yensi: Howdy! I made some flipnotes starting in 2023, and now I’m here somehow! I’ve been working on music and playing video games since.
And now, here are the winning entries, with accompanying reviews by our competition judges.
First place: “Tea for two Demoman makes soup” by JMCU
It was very close between first and second place! But this animation by JMCU came up on top, winning two gold medals and a silver.
CosmicGAZ: Cooking soup is the hardest task ever, perhaps not even humanly possible! In this Flipnote, JMCU and Demoman from TF2 demonstrates just how unpleasant preparing the ambitious delicacy can be. The amazing animation, creative use of the camera tool function, and the nonsensical aspect of it all had me laughing so much. I found the medic’s refusal to help so hilarious, it’s definitely my favourite part. Amazing work!
I bestow upon thee… GOLD!
RAXDFLIPNOTE: This one is crazy, with the different animation styles! I’m a big fan of that sporadic type of humour. It felt like I was watching a YTP from like 10 years ago. Bonus points also for this being TF2 related! Clean art, smooth animation, there’s just so much going on here visually!
Award: Silver!
Yensi: I always appreciate a good TF2 flipnote! There’s lots of funny moments and details condensed into a simple concept, using some fun mixed media as well as smoothly animated line-work! The drawn animation is very impressive, it probably takes forever to keep those lines clean! Hilarious from end to end, and hands down my favourite flip of the competition.
Now that’s quality soup!
Gold!
Second place: “The Plan (W.C.F)” by CerealBowl
RAXDFLIPNOTE: This had me consistently laughing! A lot of situational humour and little jokes, with very nice animation. Loved the Hoboken, New Jersey bit as well, "HaHa". I was impressed at how much this gave off old Hatena flipnote-skit vibes, you definitely captured that aesthetic really well. And the second time traveller at the end was the icing on the cake!!! Well done as usual Mr. CerealBowl!
Award: Gold!
CosmicGAZ: I wonder what major events in history ultimately led to this flipnote being created! Because CerealBowl really nails what I imagine a great comedy flipnote is like. Amazing voice work, easy to follow pacing, and hilarious gags throughout the whole thing! The realistic photographs of Chin, I mean New Jersey, was a highlight for me. Awesome job!
Silver for you!
Yensi: It’s time travel gone wrong! A fun stick man animation about a simple plan, with funny banter and expressive eyebrows. Love the delivery all around! I think the line “That’s Hoboken, New Jersey”, spoken in that exact tone of voice, is going to be stuck in my head for a while. I Loved it!
Take silver!
Third place: “苦行カフェ” by かすがまる
RAXDFLIPNOTE: My favourite part about this one is your ability to have great storytelling without any speaking needed, and how the sound effects are used in place of that! I do love it when I come across longer flipnotes on sudomemo every once in a while. This was a nice breath of fresh air! I also loved the photo-realistic shaved ice frame, it made me laugh!
Award: Bronze!
Yensi: A charming, relaxed flipnote with well-timed gags at a slower pace. The minimal sound effects were all that’s needed to match the funny, relatable illustrations throughout the flipnote. It’s cosy and simple!
Have a bronze!
Honorable mention:
“Time Travel” by Korrigan
CosmicGAZ: If I changed my system time to 5 years ago, do you think my animal crossing villagers would notice I’ve been gone for that long? Well anyways, Korrigan’s flipnote puts us in the Animal Crossing universe, and gives a perspective on how the time travelling tactic may look to the NPCs. Especially when you use it to make yourself filthy rich! The dialogue is well thought out, while being comedic, and the use of the flipnote’s loop is absolutely brilliant! Nice work!
Bronze!
And this concludes our winners for the "Winter Comedy Fest Competition".

And now we resume our regular weekly topics.
This week's topic is “Growing”. Check out the description below for ideas and inspiration to get you started. And don’t miss the upcoming topics listed at the end of the News Letter.
In the natural world, growing can relate to the physical development of living things, such as plants and animals, as well as changeable forms and objects that increase in size and amount over a period of time.
Alternatively, in the world of fantasy and animation, growth can happen rapidly, miraculously, or even magically, and be seen as a dynamic action, full of energy and movement.
(This would include Time-Lapse photography, a technique that captures a series of images at a slow rate and then plays them back quickly).
Your Flipnotes could involve the process of growing and growth in any way you choose;
Growing in size or amount, slow growth, fast growth, behavioral, emotional, or intellectual growth, or any other type of growth you can think of.
Whichever way you choose to grow, why not start cultivating a Topic Flipnote today!
We really love the way you're all so creative with these topics and look forward to seeing the Flipnotes you create for them.
Make sure to post your entries to the Weekly Topic channel Weekly Topic - Growing and the deadline for your entries is January the 26th (12pm EST / 4pm GMT).
We would also encourage you to add a description to your Flipnotes. This is your opportunity to explain any points of interest and specific details that we could feature in the topic winner reviews.
And if you want a cool thumbnail picture on your Flipnote, whichever frame you save the Flipnote on, that will become the thumbnail. So choose your favorite frame for this, or add in a cool title page at the end, and save on that.
Keep on Flipnoting and the best of luck with your entries.
