Hey there everyone, DeepRising here with the Weekly Newsletter and Weekly Topic competition.

We had a great response to last week's topic “Shading”, and a selection of our favorite winning entries are coming up.

But first, here's some news about a new topic we've just added to the upcoming list..

New Upcoming Topic - Flipnote Hatena

To commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the Hatena shut down, we've added the topic "Flipnote Hatena" for the week starting May 28th.

It will be a great opportunity to remember this highly emotional time that deeply effected so many of us. And also to celebrate Hatena itself!

As a consequence to this change, the upcoming topics that were previously scheduled have all moved on to the following week.

Beautifully composed with a high level of detail, exact out-lining, and shade pattern work, it’s truly a Flipnote masterpiece!

Under the shade of an umbrella, a pair of Stick People enjoy a tranquil moon-lit night in this enchanting; topic winning entry by Yensi.

Using a variety of Flipnote tools, every aspect of the scene is created with shade, including the moon itself, which glows magnificently with overlapping paint brush patterns in a star twinkling sky.

Focusing on their profile character, with long flowing hair, Jazz shares considerable knowledge of shading skills in this Flipnote Guide.

It covers the understanding of light sources and shadows, along with advanced border high-lights, and is well worth a download to up-grade your Flipnote practice.

Rendering an illuminated glow, above a cast pool of light, By Luciano presents this wonderfully shaded sketch of a lamp switching on and then off again.

The classic still-life subject, of a bowl of fruit, is brought to life in three dimensions with paint brush and textured shading, in this topic winning illustration by Söulfïre.

Including both playable animation, and W.A.O.P practice shading, the flight of a fighter jet takes center stage in this Weekly Topic winning Flipnote by irfan.

This Weeks Topic - "Bouncy Castles"

A bouncy castle, or bounce house is a large enclosed inflatable structure, designed for recreation (Usually for children, but apparently recent trends also include adults).

Inflated temporarily for use, often at fairs and parties, people can bounce around inside them all day long, and to their heart’s delight.

They come in all different shapes and sizes, and can look like almost anything at all! So your Flipnotes could feature any kind of bouncy castle you’ve seen, or one completely of your own design!
