June 2nd: Sudomemo Weekly News - F.A.T.E. Competition Launch + Topic Results: Kirby

Hey there everyone, DeepRising here with the Weekly Newsletter and Weekly Topic competition.

We had a great response to last week's topic “Kirby”, and a selection of our favorite winning entries are coming up.

But first, with regards to this week’s Topic, we’d just like to confirm that it has been replaced by the two week Hatena themed event F.A.T.E. (Flipnote Animation Tribute Event).

And here’s everything you need to know about this wonderfully nostalgic Hatena themed competition.

Announcing F.A.T.E. - Flipnote Animation Tribute Event

Get ready to unleash your creativity and pay tribute to the classic Flipnotes that sparked so much inspiration. We are thrilled to announce F.A.T.E. (Flipnote Animation Tribute Event), an exciting opportunity for the Sudomemo community to reanimate and reinterpret classic Flipnotes from Hatena.

The event kicks off on Sunday, June 2nd, at the normal WT start time and will run for two weeks. This will give you plenty of time to dive into the archives and start animating. You’ll need to choose a classic Flipnote from the Hatena archives, which you can find here: https://archive.sudomemo.net. Once you've selected your favorite, let your imagination run wild and reanimate it in your unique style.

Throughout the event, participants can watch classic Flipnotes to gather inspiration and learn from the masters. If you need guidance, check out CerealBowlby's style guide for valuable tips and techniques:

Our panel of community judges, consisting of CerealBowlby, Sudofox, King Mayro, and Meggo, will be evaluating your submissions. In particular, the judges will be looking out for:

1. Creativity and originality

Innovation: How creatively does the animation reimagine or reinterpret classic Flipnotes?

Original Ideas: Incorporation of unique concepts and imaginative elements.

2. Presentation

Clarity: Clear and coherent presentation of the animation.

Professionalism: Overall polish and professionalism in the final submission.

When you're ready, post your completed animation to the F.A.T.E. channel on Sudomemo F.A.T.E. 2024. And the deadline for your submissions is Saturday, June 15th, at 11 PM Eastern Time.

We can't wait to see the incredible animations you'll create. Take this chance to honor the legacy of classic Flipnotes while showcasing your talent and creativity!

And now, here are the winning Flipnotes from last week's topic "Kirby".

Well done to everyone who entered.

Riding a Warpstar high in the sky, Kirby swoops into battle in this epic Topic winning boss-fight animation made by ルイージカート7.

Combining great character drawing with electrifying attack moves, and stunning effects brings on the Wow factor to the beautifully crafted, high energy action.

After sucking in the Flipnote Frog with his special ability, Kirby transforms into a stylus wielding Flipnote warrior in this spectacular Topic winner by Drake Star.

We love the inventive character hybrid idea here, which is brought together so well with an exceptional series of performance motion-blur effects.

Look on in astonishment at what happens when Kirby uses his special ability on Wacky in this OC interacting, Topic winning entry by Jake.

After gobbling him up, Kirby style, he not only takes on Wacky’s unmistakable look, but also begins to exhibit his mischievous behavior.

Even making a friend in the process…..Eeeewww!!!

This second winning entry by ルイージカート7 features a mind blowing collection of Kirby illustrations.

Capturing the delightful character in many different guises and situations, the use of color and detailed shading shows him off to full potential, all accompanied by his very own soundtrack.

We were very impressed with this lively walk cycle of the classic Kirby character Waddle Doo, expertly animated by mouwuma.

Overlapping feet and arm swing, with just the right amount of up and down movement sets the little guy in motion perfectly.

How the dark and other dimensional Shadow Kirby was first created is the subject of this inventively tongue in cheek Topic winning Flipnote by Calite.

Let’s just say, it’s got something to do with a chimney stack!

There’s a wonderfully extreme use of squash and stretch, as well as some super-crazy sound effects, when Kirby eats an orb, in this winning entry created by CoolAnim8s.
